Lyrics

Isabel

Isabel walks home from school
Don’t know where she’s going to
Cuts across the front yard of a man who’s placing flowers on a stone

She dreamed away the afternoon
Of white papier-mâché cocoons
The possibility that something ugly finds its beauty and flies away

Good bye cold words. Good bye pain. Good bye tears of shame.

She takes a path right through the woods.
The only place she’s understood
Climbs onto her favorite rock and swears that she is flying through the sky

Until her watch reads half past five
It’ll soon be dinner time
They’ll ask her how her day was and she’ll do her best to smile and say just fine

Good bye cold words. Good bye pain. Good bye tears of shame.

Isabel walks back to school
Just don’t let them get to you
Her mother pulls the curtain back and waits till she is out of sight and cries

Good bye cold words. Good bye pain. Good bye tears of shame.
